Winter on Nantucket gives us a little room to slow down. The crowds have gone home, the kitchen is warm, and I have time to work on the chocolate ideas I’ve been thinking about all summer.

Many of you have shared suggestions along the way. Please keep them coming! Those suggestions got me thinking about a way to stay connected over the winter and share more of what we’re making.

Introducing: The Faraway Passport: A Winter of Discovery

What’s inside

Each month, December through March, you’ll receive:

Three Petite Bars selected from our fine cacao origins
A chef’s choice surprise from the Chocolate Lab
A handwritten note from me

The surprise is what I’m most excited to share. It might be a new bar, a flavor or texture I’ve been playing with, or something I’m still working on. You’ll get to taste it before it reaches the shop.

Where it begins

I want you to enjoy the chocolate, but I also want you to know where it comes from and what goes into making it.

It starts with cacao grown near the equator. After harvest, the beans are fermented and dried before they make their way to us on Nantucket. In our Chocolate Lab, we roast them, remove the husks, grind the cacao, and turn it into the bars you know.

The note in each box will tell you a little more about what you’re tasting: where the cacao was grown, what caught my attention when I first tried it, and a few things I like to pair it with.

Why I wanted to do this

I spent over twenty years in professional kitchens in New York City and on Nantucket, including time working alongside Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Joël Robuchon. One of my favorite parts was sharing something I was working on, having someone taste it, hearing what they thought, and seeing where it could go.

My family and I started Faraway Chocolate in 2020 with that same feeling. We love making chocolate, and we love sharing it with you.

The Passport gives us a way to keep doing that through the winter, even if you’re far from the island.

Monthly boxes, December through March
$65 per box, shipping included
Join anytime during the winter, by the 10th, to receive that month’s box
Join after the 10th, and your first box will arrive the following month
You’ll be charged monthly only for the boxes remaining in the program
Your Passport ends automatically in March
